we spent our first visit today at the medical wards and the CCU .Starting with the medical ward at the third floor , this place provides rooms and beds for patients who suffer under one of these categories :
1) General
2) Nephrology
3) Respiratory
4) Endocrinology
5) Neurology
The doctor told us some of cases we may see in this wards , one of the cases that related to nephrology was :
A 50 years old patient suffers of chronic kidney failure , came with uremia , he had infection treated with Vancomycin for 10 day and it didn’t work , they send him for dialysis but still his blood culture positive to uremia , so the doctor asked him to do TEE ( Transesophageal Echocardiogram ) and TTE ( TransthorasicEcocardiogram ) checking for cardiomyopathy .
Coronary Care Unit
Our next round for today was the coronary care unit , this place is designed to help patients with acute myocardial infarction and complications including cardiogenic shock, post-infarction angina and congestive heart failure.
This unit is supported by a team of nurses , cardiologest , clinical pharmacists . The doctor showed us the cheats that nurses filled it every hour , the vital cheat and the medication cheat .
I really enjoyed the round with Dr. Wejdan Almutlag , she was very passionate about nephrology and endocrine , she mentioned how we will study each course in 4th year , I like how she is organised mashala in her ideas . After this visit , endocrine and internal medicine still in my list of specialties . I see cardiology is interesting but i don't have that passion in cradio cases .
